Spring Natural Farming Workshop – Focus on the Soil
Location
- May 02 2025
Join Head Gardener Josh Sparkes and his team at The Collective at Woolsery’s Birch Farm, for a day dedicated to learning about the importance of sustainable farming practices, soil health, and the benefits of natural farming and gardening methods. Never has there been such an important time to give people back the power to grow their own food and beautiful gardens and we aim to give you the skills and the confidence to do this without needing any expensive fertilisers or composts.
The course will focus on making fermented anaerobic plant and soil feeds inspired by methods from Korean Natural Farming and Jadam, combined with the principles of Japanese Natural Farming. You will learn how to make different fermentations for plant and soil health along with different methods of soil inoculation using microbes from your local surroundings.
The workshop will also involve the making and use of worm and Bokashi composting, which we use to process food and farm waste and turn it into our own farm made potting mix.
Birch Farm has come to be known as one of the leading practitioners of Natural Farming principles and we have spent the past 3 years developing and modifying these methods to be more suited to our climate and seasons. We’ve now scaled that knowledge so that you can use it on your own gardens and growing plots.
The workshop will feature;
- An in-depth demonstration on collecting and making IMO (Indigenous Microorganism) inoculations and compost
- Making different fermentations to feed your plants and soil
- Lessons on when and how to spray during different plant life cycles
- Methods to adapt KNF (Korean Natural Farming) to be more efficient for commercial market gardens and farms
- How to create Bokashi and worm composters, including how to make your own Bokashi bran
- Lessons on natural farming, soil development and land regeneration with minimal outside inputs
With your workshop confirmation you receive 10% off throughout The Collective at Woolsery on the day; join us for dinner at The Farmers Arms or Woolsery Fish and Chips, pick up lunch at J Andrew Shop, or stay the night with us in one of our rooms or cottages!
