A day of coffee, sauna and beach strolling

We started the morning at 51 Degrees North Coffee in Braunton.  Their deceptive warehouse location does not prepare you for the serious homage to coffee that awaits you in the open and bright, former art gallery, space. The dirty chai? Hands down the best in North Devon. Spicy, creamy chai that’s not too sweet, with an added shot that’s strong enough to set you up for the day.

We were treated to their Pour Over Coffee Course, with a bit of matcha cake on the side, and learned not only all about the coffee beans journey to the cup, but did a tasting very similar to what you would do with wine. Who knew coffee has it’s own tasting wheel?!

From there it was straight to the coast. Croyde Bay doing what it does best; wide skies, wild water, and space to breathe. Croyde Sauna and Cold Bath was the perfect place to spend the chilly afternoon; first with amazing sea views through our glass fronted sauna, followed by the cold dip (for the few of us that were brave enough!). That sharp, electric moment when the cold water steals your breath and gives it straight back again. A total reset.

Afterwards we headed up the trail to Baggy Point, National Trust land at its most dramatic. Clifftop paths, wind in your hair, waves crashing far below. One of those walks where the only interruptions are caused by the need to stop and stare at the jaw dropping views. We packed some sandwiches from J Andrew Shop, and a cheeky bottle of wine, and stopped for a picnic at the top.

Coffee, coast, heat, cold, and a long walk with nowhere else to be.
Exactly the kind of perfect North Devon day we’re here for.
