We were delighted when our accommodation made the final five of the Cool Places to Stay category in the Food Lifestyle Awards 2024 in October, but we were blown away by what happened the next day.
With no warning that we’d even been visited, we were informed that the rooms, suites and cottages at The Collective were included in the 123 hotels included in the Michelin Guide‘s new One, Two and Three Key distinctions for the most outstanding hotels in the UK and Ireland.
This is the first year that Michelin has introduced this grading system for rooms – the hotel equivalent of Michelin stars for dining – and it feels very special to be part of the initiative which is so successful overseas. We were particularly astonished to be given a One-Key grading just a year after opening the rooms to the public.
Michelin says of its chosen hotels: ‘Not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveller, each vetted by our hotel experts and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design; quality and consistency of service; overall personality and character; value for the price; and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.’
Our Managing Director Emily Harmon said: ‘The Michelin inspectors came incognito, so we don’t know who they were but we hope they got to enjoy the full experience at The Collective and, as well as staying with us, ate at The Farmers Arms, visited the farm and gardens and moseyed around the shop. It’s incredible that we got this accolade just a year after opening the rooms, cottages and suites, and it’s a testament to the amazing team we have at The Collective.’
In total, the 2024 Michelin Guide hotel selection for Great Britain and Ireland includes 14 Three Key hotels, 37 Two Key hotels and 72 One Key hotels.
